What NGINX does
NGINX serves static content, reverse-proxies applications, and load-balances traffic with a reputation for handling high concurrency efficiently. It's the default front door for a huge share of self-hosted applications, whether serving files directly or proxying to an app server. Its event-driven architecture lets a single server handle a very large number of simultaneous connections efficiently.
