What Mattermost does
Mattermost is a team chat application with channels, threads, and integrations, built as a self-hosted alternative to Slack or Microsoft Teams. It's popular with organizations that need to keep internal communication on their own infrastructure for compliance or data control reasons. Its plugin system and API also let teams build custom integrations with internal tools that a hosted SaaS chat app couldn't reach.
