What MinIO does
MinIO provides object storage with an API compatible with Amazon S3, letting applications store and retrieve files, backups, and media without depending on a cloud provider. It's commonly used as the storage backend for self-hosted apps that expect an S3-style API. It supports erasure coding across multiple drives or nodes, protecting data even if some disks fail.
