What MongoDB does
MongoDB stores data as JSON-like documents instead of relational tables, suited to applications with evolving or nested data structures. It's commonly paired with Node.js applications and used where a rigid relational schema doesn't fit the data model well. Its aggregation pipeline lets complex data transformations run inside the database itself rather than in application code.
