What Redis does
Redis is an in-memory key-value store used for caching, session storage, rate limiting, and lightweight message queues, valued for extremely low latency. Most self-hosted app stacks include it alongside a primary database to speed up common operations. Beyond simple key-value storage, its data structures like sorted sets and streams support leaderboards, queues, and real-time feeds.
